St Paul Snake Removal Experts MN

The majority of Minnesota snakes are not dangerous. There are 17 species of snakes in the state, only two of them are venomous—the timber rattlesnake and the massasauga. The timber rattle snake is found in the bluff areas of Southeast Minnesota. They have been only two sightings of the massasauga in Minnesota. Both are found only in the southeastern countries and are rarely encountered. The snake that most often appears in homes and yards is the common snakes, which are harmless.

      Timber Rattlesnake

Sometimes referred to as “cane brake” or “velvet tail in the south these snakes are extensively (and wrongly) persecuted by humans. Because they are rare and generally don’t exist in areas that humans utilized often (such as deep woods and bluffsides), these snakes are usually not a threat to people or livestock. Though, the increased urbanization of bluffs and adjacent lowlands, as well as the tendency for some people to hike off the beaten path, can increase human/rattlesnake encounters. Regardless of their size, these snakes are not usually deadly. Timber rattlesnakes signify the beauty and wonder of the natural world. They are misunderstood and should be conserved. If left alone, these snakes are harmless. They will only bite if startled, or molested. Attempting to kill rattlesnakes increases your chances of being bitten.

“What happens if I get bit?”

The likelihood of being bitten by a rattlesnake is quite small. Timber rattlesnakes are generally very docile snakes, and typically bite as a last resort. Instead, its instincts are to avoid danger by retreating to cover, or by hiding using its camouflage coloration to blend into its surroundings. If cornered, and provoked, a timber rattlesnake may respond aggressively. It will rattle its tail to let you know it is getting agitated. The snake may even puff itself up to appear bigger.

Massasauge Snake

You may imagine the massasauga rattlesnake to be a vicious serpent, ready to strike. The term rattlesnake strikes fear in the heart of most people. This is because of bad stories or rumors about a species that in reality is very shy and secretive. Many people refer to venomous snakes as poisonous. This is incorrect. A poisonous snake would be a snake that, if ingested is harmful. Snakes inject venom, and thus should properly be called venomous.

Hide and Seek

“Massasauga” means “great river mouth” in Chippewa, so named because it is usually found in river bottom forests and nearly fields. Massasaugas like mesic prairies and lowland places, for instance, along rivers, lakes and marshes.
