The house mouse (Mus musculus) is one of the most troublesome and economically important rodents in the United States. The house mouse is remarkably well-adapted for living year round in homes, food establishments and other structures. Homeowners are especially likely to notice mice during the winter months, following their fall migration indoors in search of warmth, food and shelter. Once mice become a resident in your home, they can be extremely difficult to control.Rats and mice are actually not scientifically classifications. These words are common names for rodents that look alike to the casual eye. Mice or mouse is used to describe tiny, rodents with long thin tails. As with rats, there are many species of rodents called mice which may or may not be closely related to each other: house mice, deer mice, smoky mice, spiny mice, and dormice are all called mice. There all gross and carry diseases.
There are some of the diseases transmitted by rats and mice
- Plague- This is spread from rats and mice by the oriental flea
- Salmonellosis (acute food poisoning) – is caused by a bacterium which can thrive in sewers, live stock facilities, septic tanks, garbage, and other environments. It is mainly by droppings by rats and mice.
- Rat bite fever- is caused by a bacterium which can live in the saliva of both rats and mice. It has flu like systems that can last days and is sometimes fatal.
Managing Mice
Because house mice are so small, they can gain access into homes and other buildings much more easily than rats. The key to successful long-term mouse control is the limitation of shelter and of a food source wherever possible.
Signs you have an unwanted mouse guest(s):
- Urine stains ( Urine glows with a black light)
- Dropping or feces
- Live or dead rodents
- Rodent sounds or scampering around
- Rodent odors

- Trap them ( snap traps. glue traps, live traps)
- Rodenticides- blox and pellets
- Get a cat
- Exclusion
- Bait (bacon, nuts, butter and sweets)
